There comes a point in life when you realize that the future you imagined isn't necessarily the future you're going to have.
Sometimes, life changes your plans. Sometimes, the things you thought were permanent aren't. And sometimes, starting over becomes the very thing that teaches you what you're truly capable of.
For me, that realization changed everything.
I'm Amanda — a single mother of two boys, an entrepreneur, a website designer, and the woman behind The Modern Mom + Co.
But before I built this business into what it is today, I was simply a woman trying to figure out how to create a better future for herself and her children.
And that journey is exactly why The Modern Mom + Co. exists.
When Life Forces You to Start Over
After the end of my marriage, I found myself navigating a chapter of life I never imagined I'd be living. I was raising two boys, rebuilding my independence, and learning what it meant to create a future that was entirely my own.
One of the biggest lessons I learned during that time was the importance of having something that belonged to me.
Not just a career, not just an income. But the ability to make decisions about my future without depending on someone else to provide the security, stability, or opportunities I wanted for myself and my children.
I never wanted to find myself in a position where my future depended entirely on someone else's choices again.
And I knew I couldn't be the only woman who had ever felt that way.
There are so many mothers who have put their own dreams on hold while raising families, supporting partners, and taking care of everyone around them. Women who have incredible ideas, valuable skills, and so much potential, but don't always know where to begin. Women who want more financial freedom, more flexibility, and more control over their lives. Women who simply want something of their own.
I understood that feeling because I had lived it and I wanted to do something about it.
Building Something From the Ground Up
My entrepreneurial journey didn't begin with The Modern Mom + Co.
Over the years, I've explored different industries, owned a storefront business, worked in administration, developed my creative skills, and gained experience in branding, website design, and digital marketing.
Every experience taught me something.
Some taught me how to build a business. Others taught me how to manage challenges, adapt to change, and recognize opportunities where I hadn't seen them before.
But becoming a mother changed how I defined success.
I didn't want to spend my life building a career that left me with little time or energy for the people who mattered most. I wanted to be present for school mornings, family dinners, milestones, and all the ordinary moments that make motherhood so meaningful.
I also wanted to pursue my ambitions, financial independence and I wanted to create something meaningful. I wanted my boys to grow up seeing their mother build a life she was proud of.
I didn't want to choose between being a devoted mother and being tied to a traditional 9-to-5 that didn't offer the flexibility my children needed. Entrepreneurship became my answer.
The Meaning Behind The Modern Mom + Co.
The Modern Mom + Co. is built on a belief that has become incredibly important to me:
Women deserve the opportunity to create financial independence, pursue their ambitions, and build meaningful lives without having to sacrifice the things that matter most.
For some women, that means launching their first business.
For others, it means turning a skill or passion into an income they can earn from home.
And for established entrepreneurs, it might mean building a stronger online presence, attracting more clients, or creating systems that allow their businesses to grow without consuming every moment of their lives.
There isn't one definition of success.
And there certainly isn't one way to be a successful mother.
That's why my business combines strategic website design, branding, SEO, digital marketing, and practical business resources with something equally important:
A genuine understanding of the woman behind the business.
Because behind every small business is a person with responsibilities, dreams, challenges, and a life outside of work.
And I believe the businesses we build should support those lives — not take them over.
Why Financial Independence Matters So Much to Me
When I talk about financial independence, I'm not simply talking about making more money.
I'm talking about choices.
The choice to leave a situation that no longer serves you.
The choice to provide for your children.
The choice to pursue opportunities without needing someone else's permission.
The choice to build a future that reflects your own values, ambitions, and dreams.
And perhaps most importantly, the security of knowing that whatever life brings, you have the skills, confidence, and ability to stand on your own two feet.
That doesn't mean we have to do everything alone or we can't have supportive partners, families, or communities.
It means having the freedom to choose our circumstances rather than feeling trapped by them.
Because financial independence isn't just about money. It's about freedom, security, and knowing that your future belongs to you.
That's something I want every woman, especially every mother, to have the opportunity to experience.
Helping Other Moms Build Something of Their Own
One of my biggest goals for The Modern Mom + Co. is to help more mothers discover that building a career from home is possible. Not because it's always easy or because entrepreneurship is some magical solution to every challenge.
But because the right skills, tools, guidance, and opportunities can open doors that women may not have realized were available to them.
I want to help mothers explore their ideas, develop valuable skills, build businesses, and create additional sources of income. I want to help women who are starting over recognize that their experiences haven't made them less capable — they've given them knowledge, resilience, and perspective.
And I want to help established entrepreneurs grow businesses that are strategic, sustainable, and aligned with the lives they want to live.
Whether that's through a professionally designed website, a stronger marketing strategy, digital resources, or a supportive community, the purpose remains the same.
To help women create opportunities, build independence, and turn their ambitions into something meaningful.
Because when a mother builds something for herself, she's often building something much bigger.
She's creating opportunities for her children.
She's showing them what's possible.
And she's building a legacy that extends beyond a business or a paycheque.
Raising Businesses & Babies
If there's one thing motherhood and entrepreneurship have taught me, it's that balance doesn't always look the way we imagine.
Some days are productive, some days are chaotic. Some days I'm working on websites, developing marketing strategies, and helping clients grow their businesses. Other days, I'm simply a mom trying to keep up with school schedules, laundry, appointments, and everything else life throws our way.
And that's okay.
I'm still a single mom raising two boys. I'm still learning, growing, and figuring things out as I go. I don't have every answer, and I certainly don't have a perfectly balanced life.
But I've learned that success doesn't have to mean doing everything perfectly.
Sometimes, success means having the flexibility to close your laptop when your children need you, or celebrating your first paying client. Sometimes, it means finding the courage to start again.
And sometimes, it means looking back at everything you've overcome and realizing just how far you've come.
That's the heart behind my tagline:

Because I believe women should have the opportunity to build both a business and a life they love.
This Is About More Than Me
The Modern Mom + Co. may have started with my own experiences, but my vision extends far beyond my story.
I want to build a brand that inspires women to believe in their abilities. A place where aspiring entrepreneurs can find practical resources, encouragement, and guidance. A place where small-business owners can find strategic support to grow and a community where mothers can connect with women who understand the beautiful, exhausting, rewarding experience of building something while raising a family.
I want women to know that it's never too late to begin again.
Your dreams still matter, your ambitions are worth pursuing. Building a meaningful career and being a present, loving mother don't have to be competing goals.
You are allowed to want more for yourself while loving the life and family you already have.
